Environmental Policy

Introduction

Global Lifelines Cleaning Services (GLCS) recognizes the environmental impact of our cleaning operations. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and operating in a sustainable manner. This environmental policy outlines our key principles and practices for achieving this goal.

Our GLCS is committed to:

  • Minimizing waste generation through source reduction and recycling.
  • Conserving resources, including water and energy, during cleaning activities.
  • Using environmentally friendly cleaning products whenever possible.
  • Reducing our carbon footprint through responsible transportation practices.
  • Raising awareness among employees about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices.
  • Complying with all relevant environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Continuously improving our environmental performance by setting and reviewing goals.

Waste Management Policy

Waste generation is an inevitable part of cleaning activities. However, GLCS is committed to minimizing waste and ensuring responsible disposal practices. This waste management policy outlines our specific strategies for achieving this goal.

Waste Reduction

We will prioritize practices that reduce waste generation at the source. This may include:

  • Using concentrated cleaning products to minimize packaging waste.
  • Utilizing reusable microfiber cloths instead of disposable wipes.
  • Implementing portion control measures for dispensing cleaning chemicals.
  • Encouraging the use of refillable hand soap dispensers and dispensers for other cleaning products.
  • Purchasing cleaning products with minimal packaging.
  • We will establish a comprehensive waste segregation and recycling program at client sites whenever possible. This may include:
    • Segregating waste into different bins for paper, plastic, cardboard, metal, food waste (if applicable), and general waste.
    • Providing clear signage for different waste streams to educate employees and clients.
    • Working with reputable waste management companies that offer recycling programs.
    • Exploring options for composting food waste generated at specific locations (e.g., break rooms).

Hazardous Waste Management

We will ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of all hazardous waste generated during cleaning activities, including:

  • Following all regulations related to the storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Providing employees with training on the proper handling of hazardous waste. www.cleaning.globallifelines.co.uk cleaning@globallifelines.co.uk 0161 3883 549
  • Maintaining a hazardous waste manifest system to track the movement of hazardous waste from generation to disposal.

Sustainable Procurement

When making purchasing decisions for cleaning products and supplies, we will consider the environmental impact of the products throughout their lifecycle. This may include:

  • Giving preference to products with eco-friendly certifications, such as Green Seal.
  • Prioritizing products made from recycled materials.
  • Choosing concentrated cleaning products with minimal packaging.
  • Purchasing durable and reusable cleaning supplies.

Water Conservation

We are committed to conserving water during our cleaning operations. This may include:

  • Using microfiber mops and cloths that require minimal water for cleaning.
  • Utilizing water-efficient cleaning equipment whenever possible.
  • Educating employees on water conservation techniques, such as turning off faucets when not in use.

Energy Conservation

We are committed to using energy efficiently during our cleaning operations. This may include:

  • Using energy-efficient cleaning equipment, such as vacuum cleaners with high Energy Star ratings.
  • Turning off lights and electronics in unoccupied rooms.
  • Optimizing cleaning schedules to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
  • Encouraging the use of public transportation or carpooling for travel to cleaning sites.

Communication and Training

GLCS is committed to raising awareness among employees and clients about environmental issues and promoting sustainable practices. We will achieve this through:

  • Providing training to employees on the importance of environmental responsibility and the specific practices outlined in this policy.
  • Developing educational materials for clients to raise awareness about waste reduction and recycling opportunities.
  • Encouraging open communication with clients to explore ways to jointly improve environmental performance.

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

We will monitor our environmental performance through regular reviews of key metrics i.e.,

  • Waste generation rates and recycling percentages.
  • Water and energy consumption.
  • Fuel usage for transportation.

We will use this data to identify areas for improvement and set goals for reducing our environmental impact. We will also regularly review and update this policy to ensure it remains current and effective
